Tom Ackerman

Tom Ackerman is a proud St. Louis native whose voice and presence have become synonymous with the city’s sports culture. As the longtime Sports Director at KMOX Radio, he has built a career that spans more than 25 years at one of the nation’s most storied stations. Over the decades, Tom has served in nearly every capacity—producer, reporter, anchor, host, play-by-play announcer—before taking the reins of KMOX’s sports department. Today, he not only guides the station’s award-winning sports coverage but also co-anchors “Total Information A.M.,” keeping listeners connected to news and sports every morning.

Tom’s passion for broadcasting began early. A graduate of MICDS in St. Louis, he went on to study Telecommunications at Indiana University, where he graduated in 1997. While at IU, he immersed himself in student radio, honing his craft as a play-by-play announcer and talk show host. Shortly after graduation, he joined KMOX in an entry-level role and steadily worked his way up, fueled by dedication, versatility, and his love of St. Louis sports.

His career highlights include serving as the play-by-play voice for Saint Louis University basketball, providing national broadcasts for the Missouri Valley Conference, and stepping behind the mic for St. Louis Cardinals telecasts. His deep knowledge of the game, conversational style, and respect for the craft have made him a trusted source for sports fans across the Midwest.

Beyond broadcasting, Tom is deeply engaged in the St. Louis community. He regularly volunteers his time with organizations such as the March of Dimes, the St. Louis Men’s Group Against Cancer, and the St. Louis Sports Commission. He frequently emcees civic and sports events, including the prestigious Jack Buck Sports Awards, and has supported initiatives to improve youth sports opportunities in underserved neighborhoods.

Away from the studio, Tom treasures his family life. He and his wife, Angie, are raising two daughters, Erika and Audrey, in their hometown of St. Louis. Known for his wide-ranging tastes in music—from rock and country to reggae and jazz—and his love of local dining and attractions, Tom reflects the spirit of a city that celebrates both tradition and diversity.
